Men's Soccer Falters against Fifth Ranked Bilikens Saturday
The Missouri State soccer Bears dropped their final game of the weekend to the fifth ranked Saint Louis Billikens, 3 -0. The Bears struggled offensively throughout the game but were able to put more pressure on the Billikens goalkeeper late in the second half.
The Billikens(4-0-3) opened the scoring 11 minutes into the game when Kyle Patterson knocked home a goal straight away from five yards out. The Billikens scored again when Brandon Barklage caught the Bears’ defense napping and dribbled in after a restart and beat Alex Riggs to the near post from 17 yards out 28 minutes into the game.The Bears held the Billikens for the remainder of the half despite an aggressive offensive attack. The Billikens racked up eight shots in the first half compared to the Bears’ one.
In the second half the Billikens added to their lead when Scott Wisniewski took a pass and fired home the third goal of the between Alex Riggs and the left post. Riggs secured two saves on the night for the Bears and Kyle Windmueller led the offensive attack with three shots.
The Bears (1-5-3) will be in action again when they open play in the Bradley Tournament against Howard at 5 p.m. on Friday (Oct. 3) in Peoria, Ill.
