Missouri State men's soccer (4-2-3) suffered its second straight defeat on Saturday (Sept. 22) as No. 23 Xavier shut out the Bears in Cincinnati, 1-0.

Coming off of a successful home tournament, where the Bears went 2-0 and were named co-champions with Dayton, Missouri State looks to continue its hot streak against the visiting Musketeers.

In the Baymont Inn and Suites Classic, three of the four goals scored by Missouri State were scored by headers off of set pieces. James Routledge had two of the assists and Matt Bray had the other. The goals were scored off of the heads of Brandon Besong, James Thomas, and Callen Roselieb.

The 4th goal of the weekend was scored by Jack Roberts, and double-assisted by Brandon Besong and Jack Wood.

The Bears had four athletes named to the all-tournament team. Goalkeeper Trevor Spangenberg (only allowed 2 goals in 202 minutes this weekend), and the defensive line of Brandon Besong, Callen Roselieb, and Matt Bray were all recognized for the co-champions.

Missouri State tied the school record on Sunday with their fourth straight overtime regular season game. The Bears posted a 3-1 mark in that stretch, winning all three games at home. The 1999 MVC Championship team took their four straight overtime games into the Valley tournament, where they played two more en route to a conference tournament title.

Xavier comes to Springfield following their first draw of the season on Tuesday night against Cedarville, 1-1 in double-overtime.  The Musketeers still carry a three-match unbeaten streak into Saturday's game, after a tough 0-3 start to begin the season.

Fans who present their ticket for Saturday night's football game against Central Arkansas will receive free admission to the men's soccer game at 1:30.

Live stats for the game can also be found on the Missouri State Bears men's soccer website.
