Men's Soccer Caps Exhibition Slate with 2-0 Win over Missouri S&T
The Missouri State men's soccer team finished off the exhibition portion of the schedule with a 2-0 victory over visiting Missouri S&T at Plaster Field this afternoon. Jordan Hoffman and Brandon Durk tallied goals for the Bears. Hoffman got the Bears on the board in the 15th minute of play when he took a free kick from about 30 yards out. His drive drifted into the box where the Miners' keeper tried to punch the ball away, but misplayed it and it skipped into the net for a 1-0 Bears lead. The Bears doubled their lead in the 74th minute when Hoffman broke past the defenders down the right side. He entered the box and sent a cross that David Buckenheimer got a touch on. His touch drifted to a wide open Durk, who buried the ball into the empty net. Missouri State goalkeeper Alex Riggs played all 90 minutes. He made three saves for the shutout. The Bears outshot the Miners 13 to eight. Eric Martin registered four of the Bears shots. "We made improvements today," said head coach Jon Leamy. "Our game flow was much better, but we continue to have things to work on as we head to Texas next week." Missouri State will now travel to SMU for the regular season opener on Wednesday, September 1, for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff. The Bears regular season home opener is against Green Bay on September 10 at 7:30 p.m. at Plaster Field.
