TULSA, OK -  The Missouri State men’s soccer team (4-2-1) played a strong first half, but it was one play by Oral Roberts (2-4-1) to start the second half that decided the game.

Coming off of a scoreless first 45 minutes, where the Bears had a few chances on net, it was the Golden Eagles who found the back of the net.

In the 57’ minute, Edgardo Mira curved ORU’s first and only shot on target into the back left of the goal. The 1-0 lead stood, and the Bears dropped their second game of the season.

The Missouri State offense had a few opportunities early in the game, but was unable to score.

The Bears earned a free kick in the 14th minute. Junior James Fawke lined up and shot the ball, but it carried wide left.

In the 17th minute Jon Boyack sailed a cross towards the middle of the box after beating his defender, but no Bears were in there to connect on it.

Just before halftime, in the 39’ minute Brandon Besong played a long ball over the top intended for Emmerich Hoegg. The goalkeeper and Hoegg both went up for it and the ball squirted loose. Hoegg recovered and tapped it into the net, only to see a foul had been called on him negating the goal.

After the Golden Eagles goal, play shifted to a more offensive focus for the Bears, but Missouri State was unable to score the equalizer.

The best looks in the second half came from back to back shots on goal late in the game by Jack Roberts.

The Bears return to Plaster Field to face Libscomb on Sunday at 2:00.
