At MSU: Justin Alford has played in 49 games as a Bear and started 29, the most among all active players. 2007: Alford was slowed by injury early in his junior campaign and debuted Sept. 22 at UNLV. Alford played in 12 contests with seven starts. His lone point of the season came with an assist against UMKC (10/31), and he took eight shots. 2006: The speedy Alford scored two goals and added two assists in his sophomore season in 19 starts. Both of Alford's goals came in Missouri State wins; a first half goal in a 3-1 win over Air Force (9/8) and a second half goal in a 2-1 overtime triumph over Stony Brook (9/15). Alford's two assists also came in victories at UMKC (8/27) and against Central Arkansas (9/10). For the season, Alford fired 27 shots, including 11 on goal. 2005: Alford played in all 18 matches and made three starts at the midfield position to earn a spot on the MVC All-Freshmen team. His starts came against IPFW (9/17), and in both games of the Evansville ProRehab Aces Soccer Classic against Dayton (9/23) and Belmont (9/25). Alford recorded four assists on the season, including game-winning assists against Vanderbilt (10/15) and UMKC (10/25). Alford fired 24 shots, including 11 on goal, but was unable to find the back of the net. His shot total ranked third on the team and his four assists were tied for third-best on the squad. He joined Kellington Boddie as a member of the MVC All-Freshman team.
Background: Alford helped lead Poplar Bluff High, under head coach Mark Papp, to a second-place conference finish as a junior and senior. As a senior, Alford was named a Missouri first team all-state pick, along with earning all-region, all-conference and all-district honors. He set a school record with 44 goals and 26 assists as senior and ranked second in all-time points scored in the state of Missouri. He played club soccer for the Springfield Soccer Club.
