Bears, Hogan Lead After First Day at SIUE
Junior Will Hogan was even par for the day Monday (Oct. 25) to lead the Missouri State men's golf team to the 36-hole lead at the Doubletree Intercollegiate, hosted by Southern Illinois at Edwardsville. Hogan shot 74-70--144 in two trips around Sunset Hills Country Club in St. Louis to take a one-shot lead over SIUE's Neal McCarthy into Tuesday's final round.
Meanwhile, the Bears hold a six-stroke lead in the team race with 18 holes to play. They posted 304-292--596 to lead Southern Illinois at Carbondale and its 290-312--602. Eastern Illinois is third in the eight-team field at 613, followed by Tennessee State (616), SIUE (622), North Dakota (624), South Dakota (637) and Chicago State (662).
In addition to Hogan, two other Bears were in the top 10 after the first day -- freshman Nick Langley and junior Jordan McLaurin. Langley shot 75-74--149 for fifth place and McLaurin had 75-75--150 to tie for sixth. Jack Courington and Daily Young are tied for 25th with 156 totals. Courington shot 80-76 while Young carded 83-73. Freshman Eric Straub, playing as an individual, is tied for 45th after shooting 80-87--167.
