Sophomore Courington Qualifies for U.S. Amateur Championship

Missouri State golfer Jack Courington is on his way to the U.S. Amateur.  A sophomore-to-be from Wichita, Kan., Courington fired 72-70--142 to finish second at a sectional qualifier at Tallgrass Country Club in Wichita on July 28.  Courington won a sudden-death playoff to earn the first alternate spot for the tournament and then received a call just a few days later that he is in the field.

The United States Golf Association's Amateur Championship will be held Aug. 18-25 at the famed Pinehurst Resort and Country Club in Pinehurst, N.C.  The tournament opens with 36 holes of stroke play, after which the low 64 competitors advance into match play.

Courington was one of the top freshmen in the Missouri Valley Conference last season for the Bears, finishing second on the team with a 75.9 scoring average.
