Will Hogan Shoots 79 in First Round of NCAA Golf Regional
Missouri State junior Will Hogan shot an eight-over-par 79 Thursday (May 19) in the first round of the NCAA Men's Golf Southwest Regional in Tucson, Ariz. Hogan, the 2011 Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year, got off to a good start in his round at the 7,199-yard Omni Tucson National Resort. After a bogey on the first hole, he bounced back with birdies on no. 4 and no. 6 to go one under par. He bogied the last three holes on the front nine, though, and carded a 37 before stumbling on the back nine with four bogeys and a double bogey for 42. "I don't feel like I played well," Hogan said after his round. "I hit the ball solid but just had trouble judging distance. I didn't make the putts. Tomorrow, I need to make some birdies and go low the next two rounds. I just need to have confidence in every shot." Hogan is tied for 71st after the first round and will tee off for Friday's second of three rounds at 9:40 a.m. Pacific time (11:40 a.m. Central) off the 10th hole. Seventeen players broke par in the first round, led by Matt Hansen of UC Davis, who fired a seven-under 64. San Diego State holds the team lead after posting 278.
