ST. LOUIS - The Missouri Valley Conference announced on Monday morning (May 12) the Men's Golf Scholar-Athlete Team which includes seven first team members and four honorable mentions. Missouri State's Mark Karlsen was named as an Honorable Mention for the first time in his MSU career.

A native of Alleroed, Denmark, Karlsen has compiled a 4.00 grade-point average while majoring in Business, and is the lone Bear represented on either squad.

Karlsen averaged 76.89 strokes per round throughout the season with a low of 71, and closed the season strong. Karlsen recorded a career best 237 and earned a 12th place finish at the TSU Big Blue Intercollegiate in the final tournament of the regular season and placed in a tie for 26th in the MVC Championship after carding 81-75-74--230. The junior has been named to consecutive Athletic Director's Honor Rolls.

First team selections include Nick Dennis of Loyola, Parker Freiburg of Illinois State, Alec Heinen of Wichita State, Ryan Horner of UNI, Danny Masrin of Bradley, Alex Turner of Evansville, and Quinn Vilneff of Evansville.

Joining Karlsen on the Honorable Mention list are Alex Cusumano of Loyola, Tyler Gentilella of Illinois State, and Devin Leland of Drake.

MVC scholar-athlete nominees must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (4.0 scale), while the student-athletes must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institutions and must have participated in at least 50 percent of his team's rounds or played at the MVC Championship.
