May 4, 2012
SPRINGFIELD -- The Missouri State men's golf team has received a commitment from an Arkansas high school standout to join the Bears for the 2012-13 season. Head coach Neal Stafford has announced the signing of Brik Brauburger of Bella Vista, Ark., to a national of letter of intent, bringing to three the number of incoming freshmen for next season.
Brauburger finished second at the Arkansas Class 7A tournament as a senior at Bentonville High School and finished in the top 10 all four years. He placed second in the race for Arkansas State Golf Association Junior Player of the Year in 2011 and posted multiple victories at ASGA events, including the Greater Little Rock and Monk Wade Classics, and the Conway Junior Stroke Play.
Brauburger also finished seventh at last summer's American Junior Golf Association Kansas City Lockton Junior and 13th at the Elibit Systems Open in Dallas. He took second at the ASGA Match Play the last two summers and currently is ranked third among Arkansas seniors by National Junior Golf Scoreboard.
"Brik is a great signing for us and someone who I expect will step in and contribute for us right away," said Stafford. "He's got a great track record and an extensive competitive resume. I'm really excited about his decision to become a Bear."
Brauburger will join RayVaun Christenson of Springfield and Joey Johnson of Ozark in MSU's freshman class in the fall.
The Bears took second place at this week's State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championship in Hutchinson, Kan., their best league finish since 2000.
