Men's Golf Seventh After First Round of Suspended MVC Championship

The Missouri State men's golf team is in seventh place after the first round of the 2011 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championship in Sunrise Beach, Mo.  The Bears shot 317 in Monday's (Apr. 25) morning round and were just a few holes into the second round when play was suspended for the day due to continued rain and lightning.

The nine-team field was called off the course due to lightning in the area at 2:55 p.m., then returned to the course at 4:15, but was called in again for good just 10 minutes later due to more lightning.  Played is scheduled to resume at The Club at Porto Cima at 8:00 a.m. Tuesday with teams completing their second round and continuing immediately into the third and final round.

The Bears were led Monday by sophomore Daily Young, who shot 78, while senior Jack Courington and junior Jordan McLaurin each carded 79.  Junior Will Hogan posted an 81 and senior Matt Cermak had 83 for MSU.  Cody Schweinefus of Drake holds a four-shot lead after firing a three-under-par 69 on the 7,036-yard layout.

Wichita State holds the team lead after posting 303, three strokes better than Drake's 306.  Evansville (310) is third, followed by Illinois State and Creighton (312), Bradley (316), Missouri State (317), Southern Illinois (322) and Northern Iowa (329).
