Men's Golf in Eighth After 36 Holes at Hawkeye Invitational
The Missouri State men's golf team shot 299-306--605 in Saturday's (Apr. 17) opening 36 holes of the Hawkeye Invitational in Iowa City, Iowa. The Bears are in eighth place in the 10-team field with 18 holes remaining Sunday at the University of Iowa's Finkine Golf Course.
Iowa leads its own tournament after shooting 291-295--586, three better than Miami (Ohio), which posted 296-293--589. Drake and Western Illinois are tied for third with 594, followed by UMKC (600), Northern Illinois (603), Western Kentucky (604), the Bears, South Dakota State (607) and Bradley (626).
Senior Jay McBride paced the Bears, shooting 73-74--147 to earn an eighth-place tie. Next came sophomore Will Hogan with 71-79--150 and a tie for 21st. Junior Jack Courington is tied for 29th after carding 77-75--152, while sophomore Mark Hogan is 53rd at 78-80--158 and junior Matt Cermak is tied for 55th with 82-78--160. Western Illinois' Kyle Peterman and Western Kentucky's Alex Yost are tied for the lead with two-under-par 142 totals; Peterman shot 72-70 and Yost 69-73.
Sunday's final round is scheduled for an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
