Missouri State's Mather Honored as Missouri Valley Conference Men's Golfer of the Week
April 16, 2014
ST. LOUIS -- Missouri State sophomore Mitch Mather has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week Wednesday for the first time in his career. Mather is one of two male golfers to receive recognition for his performance this week, along with Southern Illinois’ Caleb Harms, who had tied Mather’s 215 at the TSU Big Blue Intercollegiate.
Mitch Mather shot an impressive 70-68-77—215, and finished under par for the second time in his Missouri State career. The Lebanon, Mo. native had never finished higher than 11th in a collegiate tournament before Tuesday’s tie for second. Mather moves into second on the Missouri State roster, with his 75.44 average per round. The sophomore is the only Bear to finish a round at 68 or better this season, which he accomplished in the second round on Monday, and now leads Missouri State with 2 rounds under 70 on the year.
“Mitch was really solid this week, he has made some adjustments with his golf swing that are paying off, and putted with a lot of confidence,” said head coach Neal Stafford.
Missouri State returns to the course at the end of the month with the Missouri Valley Conference Championship. The two-day tournament will take place on April 28th and 29th in Silvis, Ill.
