Bears in 12th After First Day at Arkansas State

The Missouri State men's golf team is tied for 12th after 36 holes at the Arkansas State Red Wolf Classic in Jonesboro, Ark. The Bears shot 294-298--592 on Monday (Apr. 2) at the par 71, 6473-yard RidgePointe Country Club and will enter the final rounds 20 strokes off the lead, but only nine out of the top five.

Senior Jordan McLaurin led the way for MSU, carding 73-72--145 for a tie for 24th, while senior Will Hogan, fresh off medalist honors a week ago at UALR, was a shot back with 70-76--146 and in 33rd place. Junior Daily Young posted 78-73--151 while sophomore Eric Straub had 73-78--151, both tied for 68th. Freshman Adam Welch recorded 87-77--164 for 114th place and sophomore Nick Langley, competing as an individual, is in 99th after carding 79-79--158.

Three players share the lead with 18 holes to play -- Ricky Casko of Troy, and Vanderbilt's Charlie Ewing and Will Snipes -- with three-under-par 139 totals.

Austin Peay leads the 22-team field after firing 289-283--572, two better than UALR, which posted 289-285--574. Jacksonville State is third with 581, while Vanderbilt, Troy and Meridian Community College are tied for fourth with 583 totals. Louisiana-Monroe is another stroke back in seventh at 584, with Arkansas State and Tennessee State tied for eighth with 589.

Eastern Illinois and DePaul (590) are tied for 10th, followed by the Bears and Oklahoma City (592), Oral Roberts (593), Northern Iowa (596), Tennessee-Martin (597), SIU Edwardsville (600), Drake and Southern Illinois (607), Murray State (609), Belmont (611) and Arkansas State "B" (619).

Tuesday's final round is scheduled for an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
