Spring Season Underway for Bears

The Missouri State men's golf team opened the 2012 spring season Monday (Feb. 20) at the Rice Intercollegiate in Houston, Texas. After shooting 294 in the morning round at the Westwood Golf Club, the Bears slipped to 304 in the afternoon for a 598 total and are 13th of 15 teams after 36 holes.
Senior Jordan McLaurin paced Missouri State by shooting 70-73--143, one under par on the par 72, 7184-yard layout. He's tied for fifth, just two shots back in a closely bunch medalist race. Eric Chun of Northwestern and Kyle Westmoreland of Air Force share the lead with 141 totals.
Junior Daily Young is second for the Bears and tied for 46th overall after carding 71-79--150, while sophomore Nick Langley shot 77-75--152 and is tied for 59th. Senior Will Hogan is tied for 63rd with 76-77--153 and sophomore Eric Straub posted 83-81--164 for a 79th-place tie.
Northwestern leads the team race after posting 289-287--576, three better than Florida Gulf Coast, which had 289-290--579. Houston is third at 582, followed by Wichita State and Louisiana Tech (583), UTSA and Louisiana-Monroe (585), Winthrop (591), Texas State and Kansas State (592), Air Force (596), New Mexico State (597), the Bears, Rice (599) and Houston Baptist (601).
Tuesday's final round is slated for an 8:00 a.m. shotgun start.
