Johnson Paces Bears' Sixth-Place Finish at F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate

HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. -- The Missouri State men's golf program wrapped up its fall season with a sixth-place finish at the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate on Tuesday (Oct. 23). Despite carding their highest round of the tournament (297-289-300--886), the Bears moved up a spot into a two-way tie for sixth with host Austin Peay State's B-team.

Winning its own tournament was Austin Peay State by seven strokes. Lipscomb (867) and Belmont (872) finished second and third, respectively. Also placing ahead of the Bears were Murray State (874) and SIU Edwardsville (875).

Freshman Joey Johnson led the charge for Missouri State with a 72-70-77--219. After an impressive outing Monday in which he entered the final round in a tie for sixth, Johnson followed up the performance with a 5-over-par 77 to finish the tournament tied for 13th.

Mitch Mather, another MSU freshman, put together the second-best 54-hole total at The Links at Novadell. Carding a 76-70-75--221, the Lebanon, Mo. native ended the invitational tied for 25th.

Rounding out the Bears' golfers were senior Daily Young, redshirt junior Eric Straub and junior Nick Langley. Young tied for 39th after posting a 73-78-74--225. Straub (76-76-74) finished one stroke behind the senior and placed 44th. Langley shot a 77-73-79--229, which tied for 51st on the individual leaderboard.
