Men's Golf Seventh After First Day at Austin Peay

The Missouri State men's golf team is seventh of 14 teams after the first day of the F&M Bank/Austin Peay Intercollegiate in Hopkinsville, Ky. The Bears carded 297-289--586 on Monday (Oct. 22) and despite being in seventh place, are just 11 strokes behind leader and host Austin Peay State.
A pair of freshmen paced MSU as Joey Johnson led the way, posting 72-70--142 for a tie for sixth. Mitch Mather shot 76-70--146 and is tied for 19th. Junior Nick Langley is 42nd after carding 77-73--150, while senior Daily Young is 46th after posting 73-78--151 and junior Eric Straub is another shot back at 76-76--152 and 52nd.
Colin McCarty of SIU Edwardsville and Cameron Scitiern of Tennessee State are tied for the lead with 139, five under par, after a day which saw 14 players shoot under par for 36 holes at The Links at Novadell.
APSU has the team lead at 575, with Lipscomb next at 578 and Murray State with 579. Belmont is fourth at 580, followed by Tennessee-Martin and SIU Edwardsville (581), MSU, Southern Illinois (591), Tennessee Tech and South Dakota (593), Eastern Kentucky (594), Tennessee State (597), Austin Peay State "B" (600), and Morehead State (613).
Tuesday's final 18 holes is scheduled for an 8:30 a.m. start.
