Young Fires Near-Record Round, Bears Fourth at UMKC

Junior Daily Young scorched Milburn Golf and Country Club with an eight-under-par 64 Tuesday (Oct. 18) to lead the Missouri State men's golf team to a fourth-place finish at the UMKC/Bill Ross Intercollegiate in Overland Park, Kan.
Young's round was just one shot off the school record shared by Will Hogan and Jack Courington, and propelled him to a third-place finish. He carded 69-81-64--214 for 54 holes, two under par at the par 72, 7054-yard layout.
As a team, MSU recorded 297-293-298--888 to place fourth, just two from second place. Central Arkansas obliterated the field, posting 277-282-284--843, 21 under par and 43 strokes better than second-place Arkansas State and its 886. UMKC was third with 887, followed by the Bears, Illinois State (890), Oral Roberts (894), Northern Iowa (898), South Dakota State (900), Creighton (918), Drake (923) and North Dakota State (945).
Individually, senior Will Hogan was second for MSU and tied for 13th overall after carding 73-72-75--220. Nick Langley tied for 36th with 75-74-81--230 and Eric Straub had 81-71-80--232 to tie for 43rd. Jordan McLaurin shot 80-76-79--235 and tied for 51st. Freshman Mark Karlsen posted 83-78-79--240 playing as an individual. Like in the team competition, Central Arkansas cruised to medalist honors as Pep Angles shot 67-64-71--202, 14 under par.
The Bears will wrap up their fall campaign next Monday-Tuesday (Oct. 24-25) at the SIUE Intercollegiate in Edwardsville, Ill.
