The Missouri State men's golf team closed out the UMKC/Bill Ross Intercollegiate on Tuesday (Oct. 15) with its best round of the tournament to move up three spots and finish ninth in the 15-team field.

MSU carded 302-300-295--897 in three trips around the Milburn Golf & Country Club layout in suburban Kansas City. Central Arkansas edged Oklahoma Christian for the team crown, 872-873, with Louisiana-Monroe (882) taking third and Denver fourth (873).

Individually, the Bears were bunched closely together with sophomores Joey Johnson and Brik Brauburger tying for 23rd place, each carding 224 totals. Johnson shot 74-77-73, while Brauburger had 71-77-76. They were just a shot in front of another sophomore, Mitch Mather, who posted 79-73-73--225.

Seniors Eric Straub and Nick Langley finished 43rd and 55th, respectively. Straub had 78-76-73--227 and Langley shot 81-74-76--231.

The Bears will close out their fall season Oct. 21-22 at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate in Choudrant, La.
