Jim Colbert Intercollegiate - Final Results
MANHATTAN, Kan. - Trailing by one stroke after 36 holes, Missouri State senior Daily Young made the most of Tuesday's (Oct. 2) final round at the Jim Colbert Intercollegiate and overtook Kansas State's Daniel Wood for medalist honors. In the nine-team field, the Missouri State men's golfers overcame a shaky second round to place fourth overall with a 311-326-302--939.
Host Kansas State won the two-day tournament at Colbert Hills Golf Course in dominating fashion with a 301-308-292--901 and finished 11 strokes ahead of second-place Idaho. In fourth, the Bears finished ahead of Missouri Valley Conference opponents Creighton (5th), Southern Illinois (6th) and Drake (T-8th).
Young, who finished second at the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate a week ago, shot a 2-under-par 70, tying for the best round of the tournament. His 72-77-70--219 defeated K-State's Wood (75-73-72--220) by one stroke. It marks the first time this season that a Bear has taken home tournament top honors and is the third time in Young's MSU career. Last year, the Springfield, Mo. native placed first at the Fairway Club Invitational and Kansas Fall Invitational.
Junior Nick Langley finished second among Bears' golfers and tied for 21st overall following a 5-over-par 77 in the final 18 holes. Both Joey Johnson (83-80-79--242) and Eric Straub (80-86-76--242) enjoyed their best rounds of the tournament on Tuesday as the MSU duo tied for 30th on the individual leaderboard.
Rounding out the Bears' five was freshman Brik Brauburger, who finished 54th after carding an 89-83-88--260.
The Missouri State men's golf team will be back in action Oct. 15-16 in Kansas City, Mo. at the UMKC Intercollegiate.
