Young Second, Bears Third After First Day at Colbert Intercollegiate

The Missouri State men's golf team is third after the first day of the Jim Colbert Intercollegiate, while Bear senior Daily Young is tied for second place.
The Bears shot 311-326--637 on Monday (Oct. 1) at Colbert Hills Golf Club in Manhattan, Kan. Host Kansas State and Idaho made it a two-team race heading into Tuesday's final round as the Wildcats carded 301-308--609, three in front of Idaho, which had 308-304--612.
Valparaiso is fourth in the nine-team field with 639, while Creighton is fifth at 640. Southern Illinois and Nebraska-Omaha (647) are tied for sixth, followed by Drake (656) and Western Illinois (660).
Meanwhile, Young, coming off a runner-up finish at his last tournament, fired 72-77--149 to lead MSU and sits just a shot behind Daniel Wood of Kansas State, who posted 75-73--148.
Junior Nick Langley was next for the Bears, shooting 76-86--162 to tie for 20th. Freshman Joey Johnson is tied for 22nd after carding 83-80--163, while junior Eric Straub is tied for 32nd with 80-86--166. Freshman Brik Brauburger shot 89-83--172 and is tied for 48th, while freshman Mitch Mather had 87-89--176 and is in 54th place.
Tuesday's final round is scheduled for an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
