EDWARDSVILLE, Ill- In the opening tournament of the season, the Missouri State men's golf team shot a 295 final round, tying them with Drake for seventh place in the twelve-team Derek Donenc Invitational at a combined 29 over par.

The Bears were one of just three teams in the tournament to not have a single round at 300 above, scoring 299, 299, and 295 over the two-day period. The top two finishers, tournament winners Belmont and host SIU Edwardsville were the others.

Senior Eric Straub led Missouri State finishing with the three rounds with 218, 2-over par. His round three 70 was tied for Tuesday's best score.

The rest of the Bears to compete were Nick Langley who finished tied for 19th overall, along with Mitch Mather (tied for 29th), Joey Johnson (tied for 39th), and Mark Karlsen (tied for 52nd).

Missouri State will return to Illinois on Sunday to play in the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate in Normal. The two day tournament has Sunday and Monday start times of 8:30 on each day.
