Missouri State finished seventh Tuesday (Apr. 30) at the 2013 Missouri Valley Conference Men's Golf Championship in Cape Girardeau, Mo. The Bears carded 310-305-298--913 for the tournament to move up one spot in the nine-team field on the final 18 holes at Dalhousie Golf Club.

The highlight of the tournament for MSU, as it has been much of the spring, was the play of freshman Joey Johnson. The Ozark, Mo., native tied for seventh to lead the Bears after shooting 74-77-70--221 and nabbed MVC Newcomer of the Year and all-conference honors.

Senior Daily Young closed out his outstanding career by placing 12th with 73-76-76--225, while junior Nick Langley tied for 29th by posting 82-75-75--232. Freshmen Mitch Mather and Brik Brauburger placed 33rd and 37th, respectively. Mather shot 81-79-77--237 while Brauburger had 83-77-79--239.

Pre-tournament favorite Wichita State easily won the team championship, posting 288-281-289--858, a whopping 32 shots better than runnerup Illinois State, which had 297-296-297--890. Southern Illinois was third with 896, followed by Bradley (908), Drake (909), Evansville (911), the Bears, Creighton (929) and Northern Iowa (931).

Wichita State also claimed four of the top five individual spots, led by medalist Rafael Becker, who fired 74-68-68--210, six under par.
