Young Shares Lead, Bears Sixth After 36 in Valley Golf

Missouri State junior Daily Young is tied for the lead entering the final round of the 2012 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Men's Golf Championship in Hutchinson, Kan.
The Springfield native fired a pair of one-over-par 71's on Monday (Apr. 30) and is tied with Evansville's Andrew Luo, both with 142 totals at Prairie Dunes Country Club.
As a team, the Bears are in sixth place after shooting 300-299--599, but are just five shots out of second place. Pre-tournament favorite Wichita State has a comfortable lead after posting 288-293--581, 13 clear of second-place Evansville, which shot 294-300--594. Northern Iowa and Drake are tied for third at 595, with Creighton next at 598, one ahead of MSU. Illinois State is seventh at 600, while Southern Illinois recorded 609 and Bradley had 621.
Individually for the Bears, senior Will Hogan is tied for eighth with 73-74--147, while freshman Mark Karlsen is tied for 31st at 78-77--155. Sophomore Eric Straub is 41st after carding 78-80--158 and senior Jordan McLaurin is 42nd with 82-77--159.
Tuesday's final round is scheduled for an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
