Johnson Leads Bears Again as Men's Golf Winds Up 11th in Louisiana

For the third time in as many outings this spring, freshman Joey Johnson led the way for the Missouri State men's golf team Tuesday (Mar. 12) at the Argent Financial Classic in Choudrant, La.
Johnson tied for 27th in the field after shooting 78-74-77--229 in three trips around the Fazio Course at Squire Creek Golf Club. He previously paced MSU this spring at the Rice Intercollegiate and WSU Snowman Getaway.
As a team, the Bears finished last in the 11-team field, posting 321-305-310--936. North Texas captured the team title with an 859 team total, while LSU was second with 863. Louisiana Tech was third with 890, followed by Arkansas-Little Rock (893) and Southern Mississippi (894) rounding out the top five.
Individually, senior Daily Young was second for the Bears and 39th overall after recording 80-75-77--232, while Nick Langley tied for 49th with 81-79-77--237. Junior Eric Straub shot 82-77-79--238 to finish 51st and sophomore Mark Karlsen tied for 57th with 82-80-84--246. Freshman Mitch Mather, playing as an individual, posted 79-78-76--233 and tied for 42nd. Medalist honors went to Rodolfo Cazaubon of North Texas after he fired 70-70-67--209.
The Bears are now idle for two weeks, returning to action Mar. 31-Apr. 1 at the ASU Red Wolves Classic.
