PHILADELPHIA -- Missouri State defensive back Caleb Schaffitzel's list of postseason honors and accolades got a little longer on Monday (Dec. 10) with the sophomore's addition to The Sports Network/ FCS All-America Team.

Schaffitzel, a safety from Fair Grove, Mo., is a third-team selection on The Sports Network squad and is one of just six sophomore defensive players to earn the award. The Sports Network is the first of the five major FCS All-America teams to announce its 2012 honorees.

Last week Schaffitzel earned a spot on the Capital One Academic All-America second team, making him just the 10th Missouri State football player to earn Academic All-America honors, and sixth at the Division I level.  He was a first-team All-Missouri Valley Football Conference selection and MVFC All-Academic first team pick as well.

The only previous Bears player to earn All-America honors from one of the five major teams (AP, AFCA, Walter Camp, The Sports Network and College Sporting News) and Academic All-America honors in the same season is David Arkin (2010), currently of the Dallas Cowboys.

During his sophomore campaign, Schaffitzel registered a team-high 109 tackles for the Bears with 5 interceptions with 11 passes defended. He is tied for 9th nationally in interceptions per game (0.45) and is 24th in tackles per game (9.91) in this week's NCAA Division I FCS statistical rankings. He was also a two-time MVFC Defensive Player of the Week, two-time CFPA National Defensive Back of the Week and one-time CFPA National Defensive Player of the Week this season.  The Sports Network named him as its National Defensive Player of the Week on Nov. 5 for his efforts against No. 1 North Dakota State in which he broke an MSU record and tied an MVFC record with a 100-yard interception return for a touchdown.

On Dec. 4, the on-line site, named Schaffitzel to its FCS All-America third team. He also earned MSU's Media Player of the Year, Team MVP and Lifter of the Year Award at Missouri State's annual team awards ceremony on Dec. 2.

Schaffitzel is a Wildlife Conservation and Management major with a 3.97 grade-point average.
