Bears Trail No. 23 Indiana State 14-6 at the Half

SRINGFIELD – Missouri State converted a pair of second-quarter field goals to cut into an early 14-0 lead by visiting Indiana State here in Missouri Valley Football Conference play. The No. 23 Sycamores lead the Bears 14-6 at the intermission.

Shakir Bell, the leading rusher in the Division I FCS, has 23 carries for 117 yards and a pair of touchdowns for ISU. His 23-yard TD carry at the 3:05 mark of the opening quarter put the visitors on top 7-0 to cap a 12-play, 73-yard scoring effort.

Bell made it 14-0 early in the second quarter with a two-yard score at the 10:46 mark. He capped the 11-play drive with his 13th touchdown carry of the year.

The Bears answered with a pair of scoring drives in the final 4:09 as sophomore Austin Witmer did the seniors proud with a 22-yard chip shot to cap a 60-yard drive, and then tacked on a career-long 44-yarder as time expired to bring the Bears back within eight at the intermission.

Chris Douglas had 9 carries for 46 yards to lead MSU which was outgained 167-135 in the opening half. Trevor Wooden was just 3-for-9 through the air on a windy afternoon at Plaster for 56 yards.

Ronnie Fouch of Indiana State was 6-for-10 for 52 yards.

The Bears are attempting to break a three-game losing streak at Plaster Field in their final home appearance of the year.
