Looking to salvage the hopes of a winning season, the Missouri State Bears (4-5, 3-3 MVFC) travel to league-leading (No. 16) Northern Iowa (6-3, 5-1 MVFC) this Saturday evening for a 6:05 p.m. kickoff in Missouri Valley Football Conference play.
MSU head coach Terry Allen, a former standout player and head coach at UNI, brings his Bears to the UNI-Dome after a 31-10 conference loss at South Dakota State last week. The effort marked the Bears' lowest point production of the season, and the scoreless second half kept Missouri State from putting a dent in the Jackrabbits' 16-10 halftime lead. MSU was led by its defense which gave up just 347 total yards, its second-best effort of the campaign, while Adam Beauchamp (Sr., LB, Prescott Valley, Ariz.) notched a game-high 18 tackles.
UNI scored a thrilling 30-20 win over upstart Indiana State last week in Terre Haute to keeps its grip on first place in the league standings. The Panthers had two 100-yard rushers for the third time this season, with Tirrell Rennie tallying 187 yards on the ground and Carlos Anderson running for 139 yards. Rennie surpassed the 1,000-yard rushing mark for the season, becoming the 20th Panther and first quarterback to do so. Rennie was also 9-of-14 for 163 yards passing to help UNI finish with a season-high 503 total offensive yards.
The Bears are seeking their first road win of the 2010 campaign and their first victory in the UNI-Dome since a 24-21 win over the Panthers on Oct. 23, 1998.
Missouri State is now 442-444-39 (.499) in 99 seasons all-time, including a 199-145-12 (.575) mark all-time at Plaster Field.
On TV: This week's game is the fourth consecutive Missouri State games to be televised live by Mediacom, MC-22 locally. The telecast will be a shared feed of the telecast originating in Cedar Falls
