Bears Kick Off 2010 Campaign with Visit from OVC Power Eastern Kentucky
The long-awaited 2010 football campaign gets underway for the Missouri State Bears on Thursday, Sept. 2 at Plaster Sports Complex (16,300) when they host the Eastern Kentucky Colonels at 6 p.m. in the first-ever meeting between the two squads. This will be the first night game at Plaster Field since Sept. 4, 2008, also the last Thursday game for the Bears. The Bears are 3-1 in home openers under coach Terry Allen and 9-1 in their Plaster Field debuts over the last 10 seasons. On Thursdays, Missouri State is 19-14-3 all-time and 5-2 in the Division I era (1982-present). Missouri State returns 17 starters and 20 seniors from a 6-5 team that finished 4-4 and tied for fifth in a competitive Missouri Valley Football Conference race in 2009. Topping the list of returnees for the Bears is three-time All-Missouri Valley Football Conference offensive lineman David Arkin (Sr., Wichita, Kan.) and 2009 MVFC Newcomer of the Year Antoine Wilkinson (Sr., Magnolia, Miss.), both first-team all-conference players last season. Fellow seniors Waylon Richardet (DE, Perryville, Mo.) and Skylar Smith (SS, Springfield, Mo.) claimed second-team all-league honors in 2009. Richardet joined Arkin and Wilkinson and the preseason All-MVFC squad announced this fall. Smith and quarterback Cody Kirby (Sr., Rogers, Ark.) were named preseason honorable mention all-MVFC picks.
