SPRINGFIELD -- The Missouri State Bears completed their final preseason scrimmage on Wednesday afternoon at Plaster Field, dedicating the final hour of practice to a 50-play intrasquad session.

The MSU defense collected 5 sacks, 5 break-ups, a pair of fumble recoveries, and an interception by Ryan Callender to hold the offense to just 4.4 yards per play.

In the early going, it was quarterback Ashton Glaser who made plays for the offense as he completed 5-of-6 passes for 57 yards on his first drive. A 26-yard completion to Matt Swan on the opening possession set a fast pace from the start. Later in the scrimmage, the Missouri transfer misfired on 7 of his next 9 attempts before a 9-yard completion to Tre Kelley set up a 5-yard TD pass to Eric Christophel.  Glaser finished 9-for-17 for 99 yards and the only passing touchdown of the afternoon.

Kierra Harris was slow out of the gates, going three-and-out on his first sequence at quarterback. He later got on track with a 17-yard pass to Dorian Buford. His best play was a 21-yard completion to Cadarrius Dotson late in the session that saw the senior wideout weave through defensive traffic to post a big first down.

The rushing game was held in check overall with the 5 sacks negating 20 ground yards. Benny Jones led all players with 13 yards on 6 carries. Mikael Cooper-Falls had the only rushing touchdown, as he put together back-to-back 4-yard carries to find paydirt, which was followed by a successful PAT by Marcelo Bonani.

The only other scoring plays were field goals by Austin Witmer, who was 2-for-2 with makes from 34 and 37 yards.

Penalties were dramaticaly reduced from Saturday's scrimmage with the offense drawing three flags and the defense being whistled for one pass interference penatly.

The Bears begin officially putting in their game plan for the Sept. 1 opener at No. 22 Kansas State on Thursday before the team's Kickoff Cookout and Auction at Plaster Field at 6 p.m. Admission to the event is $10 and includes unlimited food and drink as supplies last. Live and silent auctions, and appearances by Head Coach Terry Allen, MSU players and other fall teams are also planned.

The Bears will close out the week with a mock gameday session on Saturday morning and will take Sunday off before game-week officially gets underway on Monday.
