CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Missouri State sophomore punter Chris Sullens (Camdenton, Mo.) was named to the College Football Performance Awards' Punter Award Watch List this week.  Sullens earned the preseason honor along with 31 other returning Division I FCS punters who will be vying for the top individual punter award in the Football Championship Subdivision this season.

Sullens is coming off a sensational debut campaign in 2012 where he averaged 41.03 yards on 66 punts, which ranked fourth in the Missouri Valley Football Conference and 33rd nationally. His punting finished eighth on the MSU single-season list, while his attempts ranked sixth. Sullens' efforts also helped the Bears finish 31st nationally in net punting (36.79).

He earned three weekly recognitions by the CFPA during his freshman season, and was named by the College Sports Journal as the FCS Freshman of the Week honorable mention pick once. CollegeSportsMadness.com also named Sullens to its all-MVFC third team at season's end.

Four other Missouri Valley Football Conference punters also made the elite list of preseason honorees, including Illinois State's Pat Wright, North Dakota State's Ben LeCompte, Southern Illinois's Austin Pucylowski and South Dakota State's Ethan Sawyer.  MSU Teammate Caleb Schaffitzel (Jr., Fair Grove, Mo.) was recognized by the CFPA in June with a spot on the preseason Defensive Back Award Watch List.

College Football Performance Awards, the largest awards organization in Division I college football, selects its honorees exclusively on objective scientific rankings to the extent players increase the overall effectiveness of their teams. More than 130 CFPA recipients have signed professional contracts, and 21 have been first-round NFL Draft selections.

Under eighth-year head coach Terry Allen, the MSU Bears will open fall camp on July 31 and will meet the media at MSU's annual Media Day event on Monday, Aug. 5.
