Douglas Added to CFPA Preseason Running Back Watch List
Missouri State senior running back Chris Douglas (Lawrenceville, Ga.) has been named to the College Football Performance Awards Preseason Watch List for Division I FCS running backs. The list of 32 of the nation's top backs was compiled to highlight players whose performances merit preseason recognition and may ultimately be considered for the CFPA Performer of the Year honors at the end of the season.
In 2010, Douglas became the 10th running back in MSU history to reach the 1,000-yard milestone in a single season. He finished with 1,051 yards on just 152 carries en route to earning All-Missouri Valley Football Conference honorable mention honors. Despite starting just one game his junior year, Douglas was sixth in the MVFC and 27th nationally in rushing yards per game (95.5), while finishing second on the club in scoring with 11 touchdowns. His 6.91 yards per carry ranked second in the nation among all Division I FCS players with more than 150 carries.
He was a two-time CFPA award winner in 2010, including player of the week for his 191-yard outburst at Murray State on Oct. 9. He scored twice in that game and carried just 10 times in producing the Bears' best single-game rushing output since 2004.
Douglas and the Bears will kick off the 2011 season at Arkansas on Sept. 3. Season tickets for MSU's four-game home slate are available by calling (417) 836-7678. The Bears were undefeated at Plaster Field in 2010 and own a six-game home winning streak headed into the 2011 season. Coach Terry Allen's troops are coming off a third-place finish in the MVFC after going 5-6 overall and 4-4 in the league last season.
