Football Bears Set for Maroon and White Game Saturday Afternoon
April 17, 2012
Missouri State Football Annual Maroon & White Scrimmage - Saturday, April 21, 1:00 p.m.
SPRINGFIELD -- The Missouri State football Bears will wrap spring drills this Saturday (April 21) at Plaster Field with their annual Maroon and White Game, starting at 1 p.m.
Admission and parking for the event are free, and basic stadium services -- such as restrooms and basic concessions -- will be available. Patrons are encouraged to arrive early and utilize Lot 4 and the BearPark South garage due to other campus events and lot reservations.
As the team officially transitions to adidas gear for the upcoming season, a special fan sale will take place at Plaster Field prior to the scrimmage, starting at Noon. Game jerseys, practice jerseys and football cleats will be on sale to the general public on a cash-and-carry basis. Checks will also be accepted.
After a pair of 100-play scrimmages and two short-session scrimmages earlier this spring, the Bears will conclude their 15-date spring calendar with a full-contact session on Saturday. Junior quarterback Trevor Wooden, who earned All-Missouri Valley Football Conference honorable mention honors a year ago, has accumulated 360 yards of total offense in the two previous scrimmages, including a 25-for-36 effort through the air for 339 yards and three touchdowns.
Redshirt Freshman Ryan Heaston is MSU's top rusher this spring, carrying 16 times for 96 yards (6.0 ypc), while Vernon Scott has rolled up 85 yards on 17 attempts (5.0). The team's top two receivers are senior Cadarrius Dotson, who has 11 catches for 123 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and junior Eric Brown who has tallied nine receptions for 107 yards.
Head coach Terry Allen, who will begin his seventh season at the helm of the Bears, returns 24 players with starting experience last season, along with 35 lettermen and 59 total squad members from 2011. The Bears concluded the 2011 season by going 2-2 over their last four games, including solid conference road wins at Western Illinois and Youngstown State.
MSU will open its 2012 slate with a pair of non-conference games against FBS opponents: Sept. 1 at Kansas State and Sept. 8 at Louisville. The Bears will then invade Plaster Field for the first time on Sept. 15 when they open a two-game home stand against Murray State. Allen's troops then host Southern Illinois in the conference opener on Sept. 22 for Family Weekend at MSU.
