Football Bears Gear Up for Spring Workouts
March 25, 2014
SPRINGFIELD – The ongoing construction around Missouri State’s Plaster Field these days is a constant reminder that multiple upgrades are ahead for the Bears’ football program this fall. For ninth-year MSU head coach Terry Allen and his staff, setting the foundation for the 2014 campaign begins this week with the start of spring drills.
The Bears will have 15 practice dates ahead of them, starting with workouts on Thursday and Friday this week. As part of their spring slate, the Bears will also conduct three Saturday scrimmages: April 5 at Kickapoo High School, April 12 at Kickapoo High School, and the annual Maroon and White Game on April 26 at Parkview High School’s JFK Stadium.
The club’s complete spring schedule (below) is subject to change due to weather and other factors.
Allen expects 36 lettermen and around 70 squad members to return from last year’s Bears squad that won four of its last five league games to tie for second in the nationally-prominent Missouri Valley Football Conference. All-Americans Caleb Schaffitzel (Sr., S, Fair Grove, Mo.) and Robert Booker (Jr., OC, Ozark, Mo.) highlight a group of 12 returning starters for Missouri State.
