We certainly had our chances. We got bogged down in the red zone, and our inexperience led to our demise. It was tough. Those kids are hurting down in that tunnel. They put a lot into that football game and obviously we came away with a very disappointing loss.
That's a good offensive football team. We know that. They're going to throw it with a veteran quarterback. I would've liked to have been able to hold the lead when we got it in the second half, but I was not disappointed in our defensive effort. I was disappointed in the outcome of the game.
We don't want to put too much pressure on Ashton. This is only his third college football game. He made some mistakes tonight that obviously were costly for us, but he'll get better. We'll get better.
Ashton is a football-smart young man. Some of his decisions today were football-dumb. Don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to be critical of the guy, because he has some talent. He just has to not try to put too much upon himself.
We expect a lot more out of our defense and out of ourselves. As a team, we take pride in not letting teams score on us and we've gotta get better at that if we're going to win next week's game.
If they're going to put the ball in the air that many times, as a defense we have to capitalize on that, get some interceptions, and give our offense some more chances with the ball. They were a lot like our offense, so we should've been more prepared.
I think we left a lot of points out there. We've just got to get better and have more improvement everywhere on the field.
You've gotta take it one game at a time. You can't look three games ahead or two games ahead. We have SIU next week and we need to focus on them and nobody else.
I was feeling good about the two-minute offense. I think we all were. We do that every day in practice. We just have to take what they give us and go from there.
I think it's me just trying to do too much and having too many ideas. I need to stick with the gameplan, trust coach Christophel and get the job done.
I've always been extremely competitive. I've always wanted to be the best. Sometimes, I try to do too much and the results just don't always go in my favor.
