Postgame Quotes vs. Northwestern State
Aug. 28, 2014
Head Coach Terry Allen
On the comeback ...
"Really proud of the football team. It was a complete team effort. I thought that our players hung in there. We called a timeout when they were killing us - they were up 24-7 and they were going to make it 31-7 - there was eight minutes to play [in the third quarter] and it wasn't pretty. Fortunately, we got a timeout and we stripped the ball and Colby Isbell, a true freshman, comes up with it. We go 97 yards in 14 plays after that. And then, all of a sudden, we held them to a field goal, and now we're down two scores and we get a big play and we're down six and you can see it happening."
On the running game ...
"We didn't run the ball very well in the first half, and then we need to rush the football because we play a lot more off the play action. We changed some things up a little bit and made some things happen when we spread out a little bit more. We still ran the football and then we came back in the fourth quarter. We won the game because I think we were in a little better condition for the heat than they were in. "
On the team's heart ...
"I think it's a new beginning. The B.E.A.R. Fee had an awful lot to do with our success last year, but it had as much to do with our victory tonight. Adding the stadium as our own facility was huge. We practiced six times under the lights and I don't think we dropped any balls. We made some big catches that we weren't able to do before. We practiced at 1:00 on Sunday in the heat and came down here and were the stronger team in the fourth quarter, and that's because it's our facility."
Senior Quarterback Kierra Harris
What was going through your mind when you were down?
"Just keep fighting. We've been grinding with these boys for months so we knew what each other could do. So, as long as we kept pushing each other and fighting through it, we knew we could come back."
On his receivers ... "I've always said they make my job easier. I just give them the ball and they just put the team on their back and make plays."
Senior Wide Receiver Julian Burton
How did you keep everyone together through the comeback?
"We've been poised all camp and all summer and we knew it was going to be a four-quarter battle, just like it was last time. So we just wanted to come out in the second half and show them that we were the better-conditioned team and that we were more prepared than them. They had a better first half, but we had a better second half. "
On Colby Isbell's fumble recovery on the goal line ...
"It was big. We know we are going to have to step up big time for our defense, so we wanted to be sure that we ... were going to go down and score as much as we could. It was a very big play for us - probably the play of the game."
