At MSU: Roger Wright is one of the Bears' two returning starting safeties, having opened in all 11 games last year. He ranked sixth on the team in tackles a year ago and was second in pass breakups with four. Wright's best tackle game was 11 against UNI. He also had nine and two pass breakups vs. Central Arkansas, and seven stops each against Illinois State, Southern Illinois and Southeast Missouri State. He saw part-time duty in 2006, mostly in nickel and dime package situations. His best game that year was a six-tackle outing at UNI. He had four stops vs. Southwest Baptist. Wright was an all-Valley honorable mention pick last year.
Background: Wright transferred to MSU from Iowa State, where he redshirted his first year with the Cyclones. He enjoyed a standout career at Grandview (Mo.) High, earning selection to the Suburban Small 8 all-conference team at linebacker as a senior.
Personal: Roger Wright was born 1/21/86 in Grandview, Mo., the son of Roger Wright, Sr. and Henrietta Wright. He also is the older brother of Bears' redshirt freshman Jarrett. He is a general business major.
