At MSU: Greg Lovely should reclaim a starting role in the secondary after making an immediate impact for the Bears in 2005, his first season after transferring. He was named to the Gateway Conference all-newcomer team after posting 43 tackles, including 30 solos, which ranked fifth on the squad. He claimed a starting spot from the first game and shared the team lead with two pass interceptions. Lovely had three tackles for loss, broke up nine passes and blocked a kick. He had an interception for 19 yards against Southeast Missouri State and another pick against UNI. Lovely had eight tackles and two pass breakups against Indiana State, and five stops and two breakups at Arkansas. He recorded seven tackles and blocked a kick against Southern Illinois.

Background: Lovely came to MSU from Foothill Community College in Los Angeles and Brigham Young University. At Foothill CC, he was named all-Nor-Cal honorable mention defensive back, and two-time defensive player of the week. He allowed 10 completions in as many games and had 37 tackles, four interceptions, and three forced fumbles. At Gunderson High, Lovely was named the most outstanding wide receiver, second-team all-CCS team, first-team all-league cornerback, and was the MVP of the Charlie Wedermeyer All-Star game in 2002. Lovely got into six games for BYU and was on the Western Athletic Conference academic all-conference team.

Personal: His full name is Gregory Alan Lovely. He was born May 16, 1984, in Berkeley, California, the son of Lynn Lovely. He is majoring in sociology.
