At MSU: Matt Krapfl will battle for the starting quarterback job entering fall practice after shareing the job last season with Garrett Congdon and Tyler Horner, playing in six games and starting five. Krapfl was slowed by an injury the last half of the 2006 season. He got the starting nod against Oklahoma State, Central Arkansas, Sam Houston State, Youngstown State and UNI. He went 20-of-29 for 220 yards against Sam Houston State and 11-for-19 for 126 yards in the opener vs. Oklahoma State. Krapfl connected on 14-of-19 in the Bears' spring game.

Background: Krapfl led Kirkwood to the 2004 state semifinal game and a 10-2 mark. He threw for 3,047 yards and completed 179 of 255 passes his senior season. He had 28 passing TDs and seven rushing TDs, and was named Class 6 Player of the Year. His other honors included first team all-state and all-conference quarterback. He also won the Ray Moss Award for Sportsmanship and the McKenzie Award as the MVP from the Suburban West Conference. He was one of 50 players nationally named Old Spice Red Zone Players of the Year.

Personal: Matthew Lawson Krapfl was born 8/5/86 in St. Louis, Mo., the son of Lawrence and Constance Krapfl. He is a psychology major.
