At MSU: Jeremy Dawson returns for his senior season this fall after he led last year's ballclub in total tackles and finishing sixth on the team in that department in 2006 as a sophomore. He started all 11 games for the Bears in 2007 and had four games with double-digit tackles, including 15 stops in the win against Illinois State, 14 at Southern Illinois and 13 each against Central Arkansas and UNI. Dawson had a sack at SIU and had a nine-yard return with a fumble recovery against Southeast Missouri State. In 2006, Dawson was ranked sixth on the Bears' team in total tackles despite missing two games. He had his best outing when he collected a career-high 17 tackles in the season finale vs. Western Illinois, and also had a sack and a forced fumble in that contest. He had two interceptions against Western Kentucky, including one he returned 58 yards for a touchdown late in the game. He recorded 10 stops vs. Southern Illinois and eight at Indiana State. Dawson had 12 tackles in part-time work in 2005, when he earned his first letter, playing in nine games. He redshirted at MSU in 2004.
Background: A first team all-state, all-district and all-league pick as a senior, Dawson set a school single season tackle mark with 151 stops. He was voted his league's freshman of the year in 2000 and the team defensive MVP in 2002 and 2003 for coach Jason Jones. Dawson also excelled in track and field, setting a school freshman shot put record at 38 feet.
