At MSU: A solid performer, David Tillman will be counted on for his experience and leadership as he anchors the Bears' offensive line as the only returning starter on that unit for 2007. He moved from the defensive line two years ago and has been a reliable starting center ever since. He is stellar in the classroom as well, having earned honorable mention to the all-Gateway academic team a year ago and a second team academic all-district honor. He received the prestigious Arthur Briggs Award in 2005, an honor that annually goes to the Bear's outstanding player based on athletic performance, scholarship, leadership and character. Tillman also received honorable mention to the Gateway Football Conference all-academic team that year. He started eight games as a true freshman in 2004 for the Bears on the defensive line at a tackle spot, where he made 17 tackles, including three for a loss, with one sack.

Background: A highly-decorated prep, Tillman came to MSU after an outstanding career for coach Dan Morris at Ft. Zumwalt South. Tillman received first team all-state, all-conference, all-metro and all-district honors as a senior. Tillman and his offensive linemates cleared the way for a rushing attack that averaged 212 yards per game. He made 33 consecutive starts his final three years, collecting 89 tackles as a senior after 77 as a junior. Tillman was listed as a Super 30 recruit by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and the top offensive lineman in Missouri by Inside Mizzou.
