At MSU: Chris Brehmer enters his senior season after a breakout 2007 campaign in which he came to the front as a dominant performer on the Missouri State defense. A redshirt as a freshman, he was then a backup seeing limited action for two seasons before coming into his own last fall. He was an 11-game starter for the Bears and his play earned him selection as the Bears' defensive lineman of the Year. He also landed a spot on the Valley scholar-athlete team. Brehmer was in on 39 tackles and led the team in sacks with four. Brehmer's top games last year in tackles included six each against Indiana State and Illinois State and five at Tennessee-Martin. He had three tackles for loss in the Bears' upset win at UT-Martin. He played in three games as a freshman and four as a sophomore. Brehmer had one tackle each against Oklahoma State, Southwest Baptist and Central Arkansas two seasons ago. He was named Defensive Scout Player of the Year by the Bears' coaches in his redshirt season of 2004.
Background: One of the St. Louis area's top players, Brehmer was Webster Groves' top lineman on both sides of the ball. He earned first team all-state honors on offense and second team all-conference on defense as a senior. Brehmer was No. 13 on the St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Super 30 recruits. He helped Webster Groves gain more than 5,000 total yards in 2003. He had 43 tackles and a sack for coach Cliff Ice. His team went 20-4 with a first and second-place finish in the state his final two years.
Personal: Christopher Leigh Brehmer was born 4/19/86 in Steamboat Springs, Colo., the son of Todd Brehmer and Cheri Ballard. Brehmer's academic major is psychology.
