At MSU: Jason Anthony figures to be a mainstay at linebacker after playing in all 10 games a year ago and ranking fourth on the team in tackles with 58. He tied for second on the squad with four tackles for loss. Anthony joined the Bears in the fall after spending the spring at Louisiana Tech and the previous year at Holmes Community College in Mississippi. He recovered a fumble in the season opener at Arkansas. Anthony became more of a fixture for the 2005 Bears as the season wore on, recording a season-high 11 tackles in the finale at Western Illinois. He also had eight stops vs. Illinois State, seven against UNI, and six each against Southern Illinois and Western Kentucky. He averaged nearly seven tackles in seven Gateway Conference games.Background: Anthony was a four-year starter and three-year MVP at Richmond Academy for coach Jim Turner. He also was a two-time all-stater and three-time all-district selection. He recorded 67 tackles his freshman year at Holmes and was named honorable mention all-state. He followed that up with a state-leading 110 tackles, including 10 for loss, as a sophomore and was voted all-state and earned selection to the North-South All-Star Game.
