Basketball Bears Ink Two Missouri Standouts in Early Signing Period

Nov. 13, 2013

SPRINGFIELD -- Missouri State men's basketball coach Paul Lusk says his latest two commitments to the Bears program will bring athleticism at key positions after he received official commitments Wednesday (Nov. 13) from high school seniors Chris Kendrix (6-5, 185, G/F, Willard, Mo., Willard High) and Robin Thompson (6-6, 195, F, St. Louis, Mo., MICDS) on the first day of the early National Letter of Intent signing period.
"Both of these guys will improve our athleticism and length as a team," said Lusk. "We're very excited to have them join our program."
Kendrix is a local product from Willard (Mo.) High who averaged 20.4 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.4 steals a year ago for Coach Lamont Frazier's Tigers. In 2012-13, he earned first-team all-state honors from the Missouri Sportswriters and Sportcasters Association as well as All-Central Ozarks Conference and All-District 12 distinction. He was also a starter and second-team all-conference pick as a sophomore for then-coach Dusty Killingsworth.
Willard won a district title and finished 17-8 last season while reaching the Class 5 (large-class) sectionals. Kendrix is ranked as a three-star recruit by and played AAU ball for MoKan Elite.
"Chris is a high-level athlete," said Lusk. "He is a talented wing who has a lot of versatility."
Thompson earned MBCA first-team all-state distinction as a junior for Coach Matt Hixenbaugh at St. Louis' Mary Institute/Country Day School after he averaged 13.4 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game. He was also a first-team All-Metro League pick and a St. Louis American Prep Athlete of the Week pick on Feb. 14.  During his sophomore year, Thompson posted 8.0 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per night while earning second-team all-conference honors and leading the rams to a 15-9 record and conference title.
During his first three high school seasons, Thompson blocked 147 shots. He also plays AAU basketball for the St. Louis Eagles.
"Robin is a physical forward who has a very good motor," Lusk explained. "We like what he brings to the table."
The Bears are expected to add a third signee to the 2014-15 class during the spring signing period, which begins April 16.  MSU (1-0) will open a 16-game home slate on Saturday night with a 7:05 p.m., tipoff against Tulsa at JQH Arena. Tickets for the home opener are available at or during regular box office hours by phone at (417) 836-7678 or in person at the Chevy Pickup Window at JQH Arena.
