Bears Set for Final Preseason Exhibition Game Saturday

SPRINGFIELD -- Missouri State wraps its two-game preseason slate Saturday (Nov. 3) when the Bears host McKendree University in a 7:05 p.m. exhibition game at JQH Arena.
Coach Paul Lusk's Bears are coming off an 81-67 win on Tuesday night against Missouri Western in their exhibition opener. The Bears got 50 points and 15 assists from their six freshmen players, including 21 from Gavin Thurman (F, Wichita, Kan.) and 14 from Marcus Marshall (G, St. Paul, Minn.). As a team, the Bears knocked down 17 three-pointers against the Griffons, which would have shattered the school record of 14.

The visiting Bearcats feature legendary head coach Harry Statham who begins his 47th year at the helm of the McKendree program. He has compiled 1,061 career wins, more than any other coach in collegiate baskteball history at any level.
McKendree, which plays in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, has two starters back from a 21-13 squad. Guard John Steppe hit 54 three-pointers last season and averaged a team-high 13.9 points. Six-foot-eight forward David Ruckman is the other returning starter for the Lebanon, Ill., club. He averaged 10.5 blocks, 7.5 rebounds and had 26 blocks a year ago.
This is McKendree's first exhibition game against an NCAA Division I opponents in 10 years. The Bears, on the other hand, will put a 52-game exhibition win streak on the line that dates back to 1985.
