SPRINGFIELD -- Missouri State men's basketball coach Paul Lusk has announced the addition of Aurora (Mo.) native Ryan Carmichael to the Bears' roster for the 2012-13 season.

A 6-foot-4, 195-pound shooting guard, Carmichael impressed Lusk during the team's walk-on tryouts. His addition to the team will provide the Bears with some additional roster depth. The team was down to just 11 active players after the season-ending injury to Jarmar Gulley this summer and the departure of transfer Tevin Bracey in September.

"We are pleased to add Ryan to the roster," Lusk said. "He has good size, has a great basketball mind and can make shots."

Carmichael will wear No. 4 and be classified as a junior this season.

He played his freshman season at William Jewell College in Liberty, Mo.  He averaged 6.0 points per game and had the highest grade-point average on a team that advanced to the 2010 NAIA National Tournament.  He transferred to Missouri State in 2011 to work on his degree in accounting.

As a high school senior, he helped Aurora to a 27-2 overall record and trip to the Missouri Class 4 quarterfinals. He averaged 22.1 points, 6.2 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game in his final season with the Houn’ Dawgs while collecting first-team all-state and academic all-state honors. He was the Big 8 Conference Player of the Year as a senior and collected 1,289 career points.

Coach Lusk and the Bears open their two-game exhibition slate on Tuesday at JQH Arena with a 7:05 p.m. start against Missouri Western. Tickets are available at MissouriStateTix.com, the Chevy Pickup Window at JQH Arena or by calling (417) 836-7678 during box office hours of operation.
