SPRINGFIELD -- Missouri State head coach Paul Lusk announced late Friday (March 21) that sophomore guard Michael Simpson will transfer at the end of the current academic semester.

Simpson has appeared in 31 games in two seasons at MSU, accounting for 38 points, 15 rebounds and 8 3-pointers in his tenure for the maroon and white.

"Mike has informed me he wants to transfer," said Lusk. "He has been great to coach and has worked hard for us. We wish him the best at his next destination."

The native of Spring, Texas, just outside of Houston, noted his appreciation to Lusk and the MSU staff for the opportunity to play in Springfield for two memorable seasons.

"I want to thank everyone in the Missouri State family for making me feel at home the last two years -- from my teammates and coaches to the fans," said Simpson. "I am grateful for the opportunity to make lifelong friendships here. This program is headed in the right direction, and I wish the Bears all the best."

Simpson said he has not made a final determination on where he will transfer, but noted he is looking forward to exploring opportunities to finish his college basketball career.

Lusk's Bears are coming off a 20-13 campaign that saw Missouri State finish tied for fourth in a competitive Missouri Valley Conference. The team graduates four seniors and will return 9 lettermen next season, including 7 underclassmen.
