ST. LOUIS -- Missouri State junior Nathan Scheer (G/F, Washington, Mo.) has been named to the six-man Missouri Valley Conference All-Bench Team, the league office announced Wednesday (March 6).

Scheer ranks 7th among all Valley players in 3-point field goal percentage (.429) in league games, making 27-of-63 shots beyond the arc since Dec. 30. He is also providing 24.3 minutes per game for the Bears since the start of conference play while averaging 6.0 points and 2.8 rebounds per outing.

For the season, Scheer has scored in double figures four times, including a career-high 15-point output against Southern Illinois on Dec. 30 in the MVC opener. In that game, he went 5-for-5 from beyond the 3-point arc and snagged MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week honors. He followed that effort with 10 points in the Bears' win at Drake on Jan. 5 after going 7-for-9 from the foul line with a career-best 8 rebounds.  In the Bears' win over Bradley in the regular-season finale on March 2, he knocked down three 3-pointers and tallied 11 points in just his fourth start in Valley action this winter.

A Construction Management major with a 3.78 grade-point average, he was a member of the 2011 MVC All-Freshman Team, was an MVC Scholar-Athlete second-team performer last season and has now added a third conference honor is as many seasons. This year's MVC Scholar-Athlete team will be released March 11.

Joining Scheer on this year's MVC All-Bench Team are Ethan Wragge (Creighton), D.J. Balentine (Evansville), Matt Bohannon (Northern Iowa), Khristian Smith (Indiana State) and Nick Wiggins (Wichita State). Wragge was the top vote-getter on this year's team and was named Valley Sixth Man of the Year.

Coach Paul Lusk's MSU Bears begin action in the MVC Tournament on Thursday night at 8:35 p.m. when they take on No. 10 seed Southern Illinois at Scottrade Center in St. Louis. Tickets for Arch Madness are available at TicketMaster.com or by phone at (800) 745-3000.
