MSU Sophomore Duo Named to Valley Scholar-Athlete Team
Missouri State men's basketball sophomores Will Creekmore (Tulsa, Okla.) and Ryan Jehle (Overland Park, Kan.) have been recognized by the Missouri Valley Conference as members of the 2009 MVC Scholar-Athlete Team. The pair are part of a list of 15 student-athletes honored as part of the 2009 MVC Scholar-Athlete Teams, announced today by the league office.
Creekmore, who was also named to the MVC All-Bench Team this week, was named to the Scholar-Athlete Second Team. He averages 8.0 points and 5.5 rebounds per game for the Bears. He is undecided on his major and has a 3.58 grade point average.
Jehle is an Honorable Mention selection and holds a 3.87 GPA in Computer Information Systems. He averages 4.9 points and 3.5 rebounds per game as one of the team's key reserves.
Voting for the 2009 MVC Scholar-Athlete Team was conducted by league’s sports information directors. The criteria for the Missouri Valley Conference’s Scholar-Athlete Team voting parallels the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) standards for ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America voting. Nominees must be starters or important reserves with at least a 3.00 cumulative grade-point average (4.0 scale). Student-athletes must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institution (true freshmen and redshirt freshmen were not eligible) and must have completed at least one full academic year at their institution.
