Creekmore Adds Academic Honor to Postseason Award Haul
ST. LOUIS -- Missouri State center Will Creekmore (Sr., Tulsa, Okla.) was announced early Thursday as the 2011 Prairie Farms Scholar-Athlete of the Year. He heads a list of 15 student-athletes honored as part of the league's scholar-athlete team.
A 2011 CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-America honoree, he has a 3.67 cumulative grade-point average with a major in Finance. He was selected as the league's Prairie Farms Scholar-Athlete of the Week seven times during the season.
The additional accolade for the MSU big man comes a day after he was named to the Missouri Valley Conference Most-Improved Team and two days after he earned All-MVC second team distinction.
Creekmore ranks second on the Missouri State squad in scoring (12.0) and rebounding (6.5). He is the top field goal shooter in the Missouri Valley (.586) and is fifth in rebounding, and blocked shots, while finishing the regular season as the fourth-best offensive rebounder in the league.One of four seniors in the starting lineup for the Bears, he was a 2009 MVC All-Newcomer Team pick and has earned Valley All-Scholar Athlete Team honors in 2009 and 2010. The Missouri Valley Conference also awarded the Tulsa native with its Good Neighbor Award during the winter of 2009-10. During his two-and-a-half seasons at Missouri State, he has now earned Scholar-Athlete of the Week laurels nine times.
The Bears (23-7) are the No. 1 seed for the State Farm MVC Tournament, which begins Thursday in St. Louis.
